Our Mission

The Alleghany Educational Foundation, Inc. is a nonprofit corporation that secures and distributes financial resources primarily to provide scholarships, to enable students in the Alleghany County Schools to pursue post-secondary educational opportunities and to enhance educational programs of the Alleghany County Schools.

Who We Are

In 1985, seven local volunteers, under the aegis of the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce Community Development Committee, explored the possibilities of encouraging local youth to pursue education beyond the high school level. Armed with five-thousand-dollar seed money provided by First Citizens Bank, the Alleghany Educational Foundation, Inc. was about to embark on what would prove to the impetus for a remarkable future in our small, rural mountain community.  The Alleghany Educational Foundation exists because of the vision and commitment of John F. Woodruff and the dedicated service of Elizabeth Goodman.  The legacy lives on as the foundation strives to fulfill their dreams through support for the students of Alleghany County Schools.
