Alleghany County Educational Foundation, Inc.

The Alleghany Educational Foundation, Inc. Board of Directors met on May 20th and formally voted to elect Rita Woodruff as their new director.  For over 25 years, John Woodruff served as founding director of this charitable foundation.  On April 25, 2009, after a long illness, Mr. Woodruff passed away.

Board member Dr. Suzanne Mellow-Irwin stated, “It is fitting that John’s wife Rita, who has been and is currently very actively involved in community activities, is the Board’s choice as our chairperson.  The Board members voted to accept Rita in this role and look forward to her leadership and commitment to continue the dedicated stewardship in supporting the students and staff of Alleghany County Schools.”

Vice-President Una Lindh stated, “Rita is doing a tremendous job of carrying on John’s vision to support Alleghany’s young people.  John Woodruff’s objective was to financially assist and encourage all Alleghany High School graduates to attain education beyond high school.”

Rita Woodruff stated, “It is my pleasure to accept the chair’s position and I will work diligently to help our students.  My desire is to provide support and carry on John’s dreams that every willing Alleghany High School student receive an opportunity for betterment through higher education.
