The Alleghany Education Foundation provides
scholarship and enrichment opportunities to students
in Alleghany County.
Alleghany High School Class of 1969 Scholarship
All applicants shall be considered without regard to race, color, religion, sex, or national origin.
Purpose
The AHS Class of 1969 Scholarship is presented annually to a graduating senior. The $1,000 scholarship is to aid students graduating from Alleghany High School wishing to pursue their education at an accredited institution of higher learning — 2 or 4 year college, university, community college or trade school. Eligible applicants shall provide evidence of their desire to continue their education and evidence of their character.
Selection Process
The recommendations are made by the appointed scholarship committee.
Criteria
a) Educational Focus 10%
b) GPA/Class Rank 20%
c) References 20%
d) Community/Program Involvement 15%
e) School Activities 15%
f) Financial Need 20%
The first runner-up will be selected in the event the original recipient should forfeit the rights to the scholarship.
Announcement
The scholarship will be awarded each year during the Awards Assembly at Alleghany High School by a 1969 Class Representative.
Dates to Remember
Applications will be due as required by the AHS Guidance Counselor. Call 336-372-5095 for the exact date.
May/June Announcement of winner at Awards Assembly. The winner signs an acceptance letter in the Guidance Counselors Office.
Aug/Sept. Recipient has college to notify the Alleghany Educational
Foundation and notify Karen Leys.
Payment
The Alleghany County Educational Foundation shall pay the scholarship funds directly to the recipient’s educational institution when enrollment is confirmed.
