Alleghany Rotary Club
High School Scholarship Application
Rotary is a global network of community volunteers. Rotary members are business and professional leaders who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards and help build goodwill and peace in the world. The Rotary motto is "Service Above Self."
Belonging to a Rotary Club gives men and women an enjoyable and organized way to make a contribution to their community. Some 31,000 Rotary Clubs with 1.2 million members in 168 countries carry out service projects in their local communities and abroad to address such critical issues as poverty, health, hunger, illiteracy, and the environment. The Alleghany Rotary Club is pleased to offer a $1,000 scholarship to an Alleghany High School senior having four-year college intentions and a $500 award for a student seeking a certification, technical, or two-year degree, based on academic promise and dedicated service to Rotary values as dictated in the Rotary four-way test:
In everything we think, say, and do, we ask:
Is it the truth?
Is it fair to all concerned?
Will it build good will and better friendships?
Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
Therefore, scholarship awards consider your extracurricular activities, the importance you attach to furthering your education and examples of your dedication to Rotary's “Service above Self” motto.
You must respond to each question. This application, your high school transcript, your college transcript (if applicable) and your high school activity sheet listing any participation, honors, and positions of leadership must be turned in to the Alleghany High School Guidance Office by the first Friday in March at 12 noon. Be sure your activity sheet includes church and community service, leadership, and activities, not just those at school.
The scholarship selection committee is comprised of 5 Rotarians and has sole discretion in selecting the scholarship recipient. Awards are announced at the Senior Awards Day at Alleghany High School in May.
A first runner-up will be selected in the event that the recipient does not follow through on their award within twelve months, for whatever reason.
Funds are allocated directly to the institution of higher learning. The recipient must inform the school of the address of the institution of higher learning.
On behalf of the scholarship committee, we wish you much success toward your future endeavors, and we look forward to receiving your application!
