The Alleghany Education Foundation provides

scholarship and enrichment opportunities to students

in Alleghany County.

Dr. Keith Oliver, O.D. Scholarship

The Dr. Keith Oliver, O.D. Scholarship is intended for either undergraduate or graduate level students pursuing a degree or doctorate in a medical science. Keith’s wife and children established this scholarship to celebrate his generous spirit, his emphasis on lifelong education, and his endless pursuit of public service.

This scholarship is renewable for students continuing their pursuit of a medical degree. Students enrolled in medical school will receive first priority.


All applicants shall be considered without regard to race, color, religion, sex, or national origin.


Purpose:

This annual scholarship of $500 will be awarded to a current or former student from Alleghany High School with limited resources, who is actively pursuing a medical degree. The student must be accepted by an accredited two or four-year college, university, or medical school.

Selection Procedures:

The applicant selection is made by the Scholarship Committee composed of the following:


  1. Principal of Alleghany High School
  2. Guidance Counselor of Alleghany
  3. High School
  4. Chairman of the Science Department at Alleghany High School
  5. Honoree or a member of the Oliver family.

Criteria:

  1. Scholastic achievement: 30%
  2. Definite need for financial assistance: 40%
  3. c. Demonstration of public service: 10%
  4. c. School activities: 10%
  5. d. Teacher recommendation: 10%


The first runner-up will be selected in the event the original recipient should forfeit the rights to the scholarship.


Announcement:


The scholarship will be awarded each year during the Awards Assembly at Alleghany High School by a member of the family or the Chairman of the Alleghany High School Science Department. After the winner is announced, he or she will be expected to sign an acceptance in the Guidance Office.

Dates to Remember:


Completed applications will be due as required by the AHS Guidance Counselor. Call 336-372-5095 for the

exact submission date.


May/June Scholarship recipient is announced at the Awards Assembly.

The recipient signs an acceptance in the Guidance Counselor’s Office.

August/September Recipient instructs college to notify Guidance Counselor for disbursement of funds.
