ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES

May include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Demonstrates passion and commitment to increasing educational attainment in Alleghany County and to closing equity gaps in educational outcomes across income, race, gender, ability, and geography.
  • Provides dynamic leadership, vision, and strategic direction for the Alleghany Educational Foundation (AEF) in partnership with the board and local stakeholders.
  • Leads the planning and execution of marketing and promotion, online presence (social media, website, etc.), fundraising, alumni relations, external relations, events, and board meetings for AEF.
  • Provides strong leadership in planning, coordinating, and executing the cultivation of AEF’s resource development strategies, including fundraising, major gifts, grant development, corporate and foundation support, capital campaigns, special events and planned giving components.
  • Builds and maintains relations with donors, potential donors, and all community stakeholders; coordinates stewardship responsibilities including timely acknowledgement of contributions and appropriate follow up with donors; maintains donor software system, the alumni database and foundation records.
  • Advocates for Alleghany County and for developing innovative, entrepreneurial, and strategic initiatives to support teaching, learning, and training needs.
  • Leads the process of awarding scholarships to students, writing checks to colleges, and maintaining the necessary records of those scholarships.
  • Identify and secure other gifts or grants that enhance educational attainment through teaching, learning, professional development, and capital improvement projects.
  • Works collaboratively with leaders in early childhood, K-12, higher ed, and other non-profit organizations to identify needs and opportunities,prioritize strategies and initiatives, and otherwise coalesce around the common objective of increasing educational attainment.  
  • Oversees the development, monitoring, and reconciliation of budgets for AEF in collaboration with administrative/accounting personnel and board.
  • Supervises and evaluates the performance of the administrative personnel and any other contracted employees or agencies hired by AEF. 
  • Maintains an orderly and welcoming office environment, greet all visitors with pleasant and professional demeanor, and assist visitors.  
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the board. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Established relationships and credibility within early childhood, K-12, higher ed, and other non-profit organizations.
  • Experience working in early childhood, K-12, higher ed, and/or other non-profit sectors.
  • Excellent communication, public speaking, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to convene diverse stakeholders and facilitate collaborative dialogue and planning.
  • Capability to robustly research proven policies, practices, and quantifiable results.
  • Capacity to use data to drive decision-making, set strategy and build collective buy-in.
  • Proficiency in technologies and platforms of online presence related to AEF’s operation.
  • Optimism, patience, determination, and the ability to work across institutions.
  • Ability to inspire others to think creatively and pledge support for future endeavors.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and implementation of current trends in fundraising and “friend-raising,” educational attainment strategies, alumni management, technology, and board development techniques.

 

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS 

  • Ability to read and interpret documents, data, and reports. 
  • Ability to write clear and professional reports and correspondence. 
  • Ability to speak effectively and professionally to students, donors, community leaders and other visitors.
  • Ability to speak and understand Spanish is preferred but not required.

 

COMPENSATION

Salaried position, commensurate with professional experience.
