The Bob and Carol Black Scholarship was established several years ago with the purpose of financially helping families in Alleghany County as they send their graduates to school to further their education after high school. Mr. Robert Emerson Black, Jr. , believed in hard work and service to his community . He served in the U.S. Army. Through his strong dedication, he rose through the ranks at Lowe’s Companies Inc., to become Vice-President of Purchasing. He served on many local boards where he searched for ways to help strengthen Alleghany County. With his leadership, the Alleghany Educational Foundation has grown and is able to help students long after his passing. Mrs. Carol Black, his wife, is dedicated to community work as well. She enjoys supporting the arts. Bob and Carol enjoyed supporting the N.C. State Wolfpack (Bob’s alma mater) for many years!
